Conjunctivitis

conjunctivitis is an inflammation on conjunctiva.

New born baby can get infection gonococcus on conjunctiva from passing through the road when his mother was born.

Therefore, every new born baby will get eye drops (usually silver nitrate, povidin iodin) or antibiotics salve (either erythromycin for example) to kill bacteria that can cause conjunctivitis gonococci.

Adults can get conjunctivitis gonococci through sexual intercourse (for example, if the infected cement fluid splashed into the eye). Conjunctivitis usually attacks only one eye.

Within 12-48 hours after infection began, the eyes become red and painful. If not treated can form ulcus cornea, abscess, eye perforation even blindness.

Causes
  • Conjunctiva may experience inflammation as a result: infectious virus or bacteria

Sometimes conjunctivitis can take place for months or many years. Conjunctivitis of this kind can be caused by:

Diagnosis
The diagnosis is done, based on symptoms and eye examination results.

Medicine
Treatment depends on the causes.
  • Eyelid cleaned with warm water.
  • If the bacteria causes, salve is given or eye drops that contain antibiotics.
  • Conjunctivitis due to allergies, antihistamine per-oral (through the mouth) can reduce itching, irritation and itching. or can be also given eye drops containing a corticosteroid.


To improve the position of lid or to open the eye water channel that is clogged, may need to be surgery.

Prevention
  • Conjunctivitis easily spread, because the before and after cleaning or spread drugs, patients should wash hands out clean.
  • Try not to touch the eyes of healthy eyes after handling the sick.
  • Do not use a towel or cloth, along with the other house.
  • Use the contact lenses according to instructions from the doctor and the author factory.
